Star Wars Wedding & Death Star Cake

I recently designed an entire dessert table for a wedding. Part of the table included the Death Star groom's cake for a huge Star Wars fanatic. When I say huge, I mean HUGE! I was told he even dressed up as Han Solo for the couple's first dance!! Here is a picture of their wedding countdown: I snapped pictures (unfortunately they are poor quality, I'm sorry!) during the process, so here is a small pictorial! But first, the final product: My team and I sculpted the Han Solo and Princess Read more [...]

Easy Valentine’s Day Recipe

Valentine's day can be a little cliché - a box of chocolates being one of the biggest. I don't know about you, but I've always appreciated romance a lot more when effort was put behind a gesture. This Valentine's day treat your loved one with a sweet surprise that will not only please both your palates, bellies and chocolate loving souls, it will make it more personal and memorable (besides, we all know the fastest way to win a person's heart is through their stomachs). Sweet Surprise #1 Ingredients: 1 Read more [...]

The “Brake” Recipe

Eggless Dark Chocolate Pudding

Today I remembered I had left over heavy cream and decided to make dark chocolate pudding! Feel free to substitute the dark chocolate with milk chocolate, but make sure you reduce the sugar by half to compensate sweetness! Here's an original Shakar Bakery recipe! Makes 4 servings. Ingredients 1 cup milk 2 cups heavy cream 1 cup coconut sugar 1/2cup unsweetened Ghiradelli dark chocolate 2 tbsp Corn Starch 1/2 stick organic butter Pour milk and heavy cream into a sauce pan and Read more [...]

Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Do you sometimes wonder how a business was discovered? What was it that set it off in a strong direction? There's always a special moment during the growth of a small business that helps set it apart from all the others. Mine was this cake, and its story has been long delayed. This blog gets personal...It's a rare insight that I choose to share with you. Back in March, while I was working on a very complex cake, I received a phone call from a good friend of mine, Manya, asking if I could put Read more [...]

Tiered Ruffled Cake

This beautifully ruffled cake was put together for my mother's 60th birthday. It was my first time making fondant ruffles, and I have to tell you, it took quite a few tries for me to get the hang of it. The only inedible part of this cake were the borders. I have a funny story about the border (except maybe only my science/math oriented readers will laugh). When I went to buy the border, I took the roll to the worker to cut and I told her I needed enough to wrap around a 12" cake. She takes Read more [...]

Nikon SLR Camera Cake

I received a cake order for a Nikon SLR camera cake for a camera lover. I have to admit, this cake has been a great challenge! I learned a great deal from sculpting this cake, and I even taught myself to cast sugar to make a lens!Unfortunately for me, we were hit with a major heatwave and no AC could prevent the lens from melting a bit. I'll post the pictures of the lens when I first cast it, and then you can compare it to the final picture on the camera. I must say I was sorely disappointed! I am, Read more [...]

Pink Floyd The Wall Cake

Any Pink Floyd fan would understand the different themes in this cake. This picture doesn't do the cake justice, because it doesn't capture all the details I put to the bottom tier. The bottom tier represents "The Wall" album. I tried to mimic the brick detailing that the album cover had. On the sides, I have the image of the screaming man (like the one on the DVD cover) and that of the marching hammers. The middle tier was by far my favorite! It represents "Dark Side of the Moon." I absolutely Read more [...]

National Nutrition Month Recipe#4- Chocolate Souffles

Hunting  chocolate souffles recipes was hard! There are so many different ways to make it, and some of them were heart stopping fatty (I wouldn't be surprised if those were the tastiest souffles!). I narrowed it down to 2 recipes- one which is low-fat but uses flour, and the other which seems a lot healthier (but I don't have the nutrition information on it) because it doesn't use flour! See for yourself...My mouth waters more with version 2! ♥Shakar Bakery Tip: Remember to always substitute: 1. Read more [...]
