Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Do you sometimes wonder how a business was discovered? What was it that set it off in a strong direction? There's always a special moment during the growth of a small business that helps set it apart from all the others. Mine was this cake, and its story has been long delayed. This blog gets personal...It's a rare insight that I choose to share with you. Back in March, while I was working on a very complex cake, I received a phone call from a good friend of mine, Manya, asking if I could put Read more [...]

Holy Fondant, Batman!!

Earlier this year, I got probably the coolest cake request ever! My customer said she was throwing a party for her son- it was to be a birthday party and a Baptism as well. They were expecting 150 guests, and she wanted a 5 tier Super Hero cake. She e-mailed me this picture and specified that she didn't want the Robin or the Aqua-man tier: As soon as I saw this picture, I went a little nuts over how ridiculously AWESOME this cake was! I spent a long, long time searching the internet to try to Read more [...]

Yo Gabba Gabba Foofa Cake

Recently, I received an order for a Yo Gabba Gabba cake in the shape of the character Foofa. The beauty of this job is that a lot of times I have to work with ideas that are foreign to me. I had no idea what Yo Gabba Gabba was, or who Foofa was! Here's a google image of her. Here is the cake I baked for her: Read more [...]

How Sweet It Is!

This weekend I had the pleasure of baking for my best friend's engagement get together with friends. I am very close friends with her boyfriend as well, so I wanted to bring their relationship alive with the cake. They have done a 10 year long-distance relationship before sealing the deal with the ring. He was doing med-school in New York, while she was living in California. On her last trip to New York, they went to Niagara Falls where he asked her to marry him. From there, they decided to literally Read more [...]

Kung Fu Panda Cake

Kung Fu Panda cake officially joined the 30's celebration! In the past, I have created these fun, child-like themed cakes for family and friends who turned 30 in order to celebrate their inner child.  This cake was not only baked for a friend who turned 30, he also happens to be a doctor, which makes it more comical (at least to me)! This cake was a little tricky to make since I had to bake two separate cakes and then merge them together. The panda was made with marble cake, and the base Read more [...]

Pink Floyd The Wall Cake

Any Pink Floyd fan would understand the different themes in this cake. This picture doesn't do the cake justice, because it doesn't capture all the details I put to the bottom tier. The bottom tier represents "The Wall" album. I tried to mimic the brick detailing that the album cover had. On the sides, I have the image of the screaming man (like the one on the DVD cover) and that of the marching hammers. The middle tier was by far my favorite! It represents "Dark Side of the Moon." I absolutely Read more [...]

Mario Kart Cake

This month I took on the challenge of sculpting a mario kart themed cake for a friend of a friend's birthday. I decided to go with a small two tiered cake (perfect for 20 people) and after much debate, I went with the above design. Choosing what to sculpt on a mario kart cake was indeed very difficult! There was so many options! The goombas, the one-up brick square, the bullet, donkey kong...the list goes on and on. Instead, I did a turtle shell, a star cone, the mushroom, and the old-school mario Read more [...]
