Figs in a cat-cycle

As you know by now, I take pride in telling my customers that my cakes are completely customized to their wants and desires (as long as I approve of their flavor combinations. I once made the mistake of agreeing to raspberry jam with vanilla cake and almond frosting. I seriously gagged when I sampled the combination and called the customer and said I'm switching their flavor to something more palatable.Yes, I do that. Trust me, it's for the best). Well, this bride-to-be really took my customizing Read more [...]

Artificial Butter Linked To Alzheimer’s

Disclaimer: Before you read this post, I want to ask you not to panic as you read the information. The people who should worry most are factory workers, cooks, bakers, and anyone exposed to the vapors frequently over a long period of time. With that said, I hope this article helps you make wiser decisions as you purchase ingredients and snacks! How many times have you purchased microwavable popcorn, margarine, and butter flavored candy? How many times have you purchased a cake from a bakery, Read more [...]

Hello Kitty Birthday Cake

A week ago, I was contacted for a Hello Kitty cake. My customer wanted a pink cake, Hello Kitty themed, and she e-mailed me a few pictures. She told me she liked the pictures where Hello Kitty was surrounded by friends. I chose the following picture, and told her I would sculpt the images for her. I had never, ever before sculpted or designed a Hello Kitty cake! I was very excited for this project since I know she's a favorite amongst so many people, and as usual, I like facing new challenges- Read more [...]

Yo Gabba Gabba Foofa Cake

Recently, I received an order for a Yo Gabba Gabba cake in the shape of the character Foofa. The beauty of this job is that a lot of times I have to work with ideas that are foreign to me. I had no idea what Yo Gabba Gabba was, or who Foofa was! Here's a google image of her. Here is the cake I baked for her: Read more [...]

Rock Star Guitar Cake

This cake was by far the easiest, yet the most challenging cake I have made! I think it was more challenging because I was on crutches and had to depend on others to bring me things, carry things for me, and support me as much as possible. But I love the end result! I made the guitar out of Styrofoam and covered it with fondant. I then molded all the buttons and details out of fondant. The cake itself is vanilla, and I frosted it with buttercream. The sides are covered with edible paper with a Read more [...]

Tea Party Baby Shower

This cake was commissioned for a baby shower with a British tea party theme. The sex of the baby was unknown, so I was asked to do neutral colors. The design was left entirely up to me. The flavor of the cake was chocolate with chocolate frosting. The designs are made out of fondant, and the cake was frosted with buttercream.   Read more [...]

How Sweet It Is!

This weekend I had the pleasure of baking for my best friend's engagement get together with friends. I am very close friends with her boyfriend as well, so I wanted to bring their relationship alive with the cake. They have done a 10 year long-distance relationship before sealing the deal with the ring. He was doing med-school in New York, while she was living in California. On her last trip to New York, they went to Niagara Falls where he asked her to marry him. From there, they decided to literally Read more [...]

Baby Shower Cake

Today at work, my supervisor called me to ask if I can bake a cake for tomorrow. (For those of you who don't know me personally, my full-time job is as an environmental engineer, I do the cake business on the side). Wednesdays are super busy for me, as I don't get home until about 8:30pm. Since I get up really early to go to work, I only had about 4 hours to do this cake. It is now 12:52am and I am done with the cake! I didn't think I'd be able to complete it since I was exhausted! So ladies and Read more [...]

Kung Fu Panda Cake

Kung Fu Panda cake officially joined the 30's celebration! In the past, I have created these fun, child-like themed cakes for family and friends who turned 30 in order to celebrate their inner child.  This cake was not only baked for a friend who turned 30, he also happens to be a doctor, which makes it more comical (at least to me)! This cake was a little tricky to make since I had to bake two separate cakes and then merge them together. The panda was made with marble cake, and the base Read more [...]
