June was a very busy month, and one of the most adorable cakes I got to work on was a Winnie the Pooh themed cake for a baby shower! The mother-to-be was an ex-coworker of mine from my previous Engineering job, and she kindly asked me to make a cake for her shower since she always saw me posting pictures of my cakes online. Naturally, I said yes! I decided to also do a small candy table for her to go along with the cake. She was expecting 20 guests, and the colors of her party were blue and yellow.
I racked my brains for a few days, before deciding on a design for the cake. This was a Disney cake, and I really stay away from sculpting Disney characters because I will admit that I am scared of Disney!! I’ve heard some horrible stories about them going after people who tried to imitate their characters in art… I know I’m a very small fish in the sea, but I’d rather not risk the Disney wrath!
Therefore, I decided to go with a concept cake! We all know Pooh loves his Hunny, and my little bees were such a hit from the Stingin’ 30′s cake, that I decided to do a beehive with melted honey on top and a few bees buzzin’ around. To add blue to the party, I kept the candy table colors to blue and white. I also added some Winnie the Pooh pictures which I colored myself- again sticking to the yellow and blue colors to match my table!
My customer was a chocolate fanatic, so aside from baking a chocolate cake, I added chocolate anywhere I could! For example, the melted “honey” was actually melted chocolate. Although the idea was super cute, I was pretty nervous about cutting this cake. I knew the chocolate layer was going to be a bit of a pain to cut through, and I was right! But sometimes you have to sacrifice a smooth cut for a cute look! Here are the pictures:
And lastly, here is a picture of me with my friend!
